I miss Africa! Quelle surprise. I say it all of the time, but it’s patently true.
I cannot wait to get back.
I have written this many times before, but Africa truly is my special place. It is so different and special and awe-inspiring with wonderful people and landscapes and sunsets even though most of it is still in need of a lot of help. Africa is evolving and it keeps drawing me back every year. I was just thinking about this the other day: I have been to Africa every year since 2011 for which I am immensely grateful. My trips to Africa have been relegated to mostly east Africa and South Africa (not southern Africa, mind you).
There is still so much of Africa for me to explore. And, for that reason I am counting down the days when I can finally get back to the Mother continent and to visit other countries.
I will likely return in the middle of August. I plan to go to Namibia this time for a variety of reasons including being able to see stellar health worker and maternal health programs and also to see its dunes! I have wanted to see Namibia’s dunes for years and this year, if all goes well, I will finally see them.
And, also if all goes well, I might be headed to Mali in the fall with an international NGO that I believe does amazing work in countless countries around the world. Mali is also a country I have always, always, always wanted to visit. It would be another dream come true.
