The Things That Make Me Happy

Gravelly Point ParkAs I sit here quietly on Christmas Eve I am reminded of how quickly time flies!  It will be 2016 before we know it.

One of my favorite experiences this year was spending Thanksgiving with my mother and then taking a pit stop at one of my favorite places in the world, Gravelly Point Park, before making our way back home.

As most of you know, I love flying! When I first started flying regularly years ago I was scared to death. As it turns out, the more I flew the less scared I was and the more I understood how airplanes work…how they sound when they take off, level, and land. I used to be terrified by the mere, simple sounds that airplanes make. Now, I relish them. So, whenever I get a chance to see them up close and flying overhead I take it.

At Gravelly Point Park in Washington, DC you can see airplanes of all types in a distance and then watch them steadily approach Reagan International Airport and land. The planes fly right over your head and it’s one of the most exhilarating things you’ll ever experience. I love it. If I lived in D.C. or the surrounding area I would be there all of the time. As it is now, I go whenever we’re in D.C.

One of my very favorite memories from visiting the park years ago is walking out in the grass and watching the planes fly by when a family approached us and said they saw us out of their window when they were landing. It made them want to visit the park, too, and they did. I’ll always love that experience!

That’s one of the reasons I keep going back!
